Incoming Heatwave

High temperatures are expected this in Lanzarote, starting on Thursday and accompanied by some light haze. 30 Degrees or more is expected from Thursday onwards.

Possible Bus Strike From 3rd April

The unions which represent workers for the Intercity Bus Company on the island have lodged details of a possible strike which will start on 3rd April. Currently The Cabildo are working with them to create a “minimum service standard” which will keep a more basic service running, but it is hoped an agreement will be reached to prevent the strike.

Cabildo President Responds To Criticism

Cabildo President Dolores Corujo responded to incorrect comments attributed to her in the press, suggesting Lanzarote was “Fed up with British tourism.” We published her full statement here: British Press.

Celebrations Planned For 30 years As A Biosfera Reserve

In October this year, Lanzarote will celebrate the 30th anniversary of becoming a Biosfera Reserve. A series of walks, talks, seminars and workshops will take place during the month.

Ocean Interpretation Centre Opens In Arrecife

An Ocean Interpretation Centre has opened at El Islote de la Fermina in Arrecife. The centre consists of several rooms explaining ocean life around the island, all about shipwrecks off the coast of Lanzarote and includes several marine artefacts that have been recovered over the years.

Fuel Prices Down Again

The price of fuel dropped on the island again last month. The average price of unleaded gasoline is now €1.40, with gasoil (Diesel) at €1.43. The lowest price on the island currently is at PCan in Tias, where unleaded is just €1.31

Carnival 2023 Ends In Playa Blanca

Carnival across the island ended last weekend, with Playa Blanca the scene of the final parade. Thousands of tourists and locals turned out to enjoy the event.

Ironman 70.3 Record Entries

Lanzarote’s Ironman 70.3 event took place last weekend, with a record 1200 participants from 41 countries. The respective male and female races were won by Justus Nieschlag and Anne Haug, both from Germany.

Volcano House Re-Opens

The Casa de los Volcanes at Jameos del Agua re-opened at the weekend after an extensive refurbishment. The house is included in the entry price for Jameos del Agua and features information about volcanoes as well as virtual reality displays and shows.

Lanzarote Ireland Network Celebrates St Patrick’s Day

The Lanzarote Ireland network celebrated the patron saint’s day with a gala dinner at the Arrecife Gran Hotel last weekend. A highlight of the evening was a performance by musicians combining Canaria and Irish music. The event also raised €3380 for two local charities.

Foreign Residents 22.8% Of The Population

The percentage of foreign residents in Lanzarote has risen to 22.8% of the total population. About half of the total are from UK, Colombia, Italy or Morocco.
