Fake €10 Notes In Circulation
Some fake €10 notes are in circulation on the island currently. They are marked in small lettering “This is not legal tender, it is used for motion props,” however, they are extremely realistic and it is easy to miss the lettering.
Binter Canarias Announces New Bintazo Sale
Binter Canarias is having a “Bintazo” sale, offering cheap local and international flights. The sale lasts from now until 19th September and applies to tickets to travel between 17th October and 18th December. Ticket prices start at €24.35 per trip.
Continuing Drought Causes Concern For Wineries
Grape growers on the island are suggesting there will be a need for irrigation this winter, unless some substantial rain reaches the island. Lanzarote has now gone three consecutive years with less than 100mm of rainfall, and this year the total so far is less than half the normal expectation.
Los Dolores Road Closures
Several roads will be closed at various times this Saturday for the safety of the Los Dolores pilgrims, who will be walking to Mancha Blanca.
- LZ20 Arrecife to Tinajo, from 1AM to 10PM
- LZ30 Teguise to Uga, from 8AM to 10PM
- LZ46 Tiagua to Mancha Blanca, from 10AM to 6AM
- LZ56 Mancha Blanca to La Geria, from 8AM to 6AM
- LZ58 Masdache to La Vegueta, from 8AM to 6AM
- LZ67 La Santa to Yaiza, from 3PM to 11Pm
- LZ409 Mozaga to La Vegueta, 8AM to 6AM
Record Number Of Vehicles On The Road
At the end of July, Lanzarote’s vehicle fleet totalled a record 136,001, an increase of more than 5,000 compared to last year, and reflecting the massive growth in car hire fleets. Of that total, 92.000 are passenger cars and most are registered in Arrecife.
Puerto del Carmen Bike Path Being Reconditioned
The cycle path on the main avenida in Puerto del Carmen, between Avenida Italia and Calle Timanfaya, will have a new surface put onto it this week. Road traffic will remain open.
First 2022 Wine Available
As with last year, the first 2022 wine this year is Vega de Yuco’s Esencia Yaiza, sold in the distinctive blue bottles. 15,000 bottles have been produced and they are now on the market.
Unemployment Lowest “In Years”
The number of people unemployed on the island fell to 9,611 last month, less than half the figure for the same month last year, and the lowest level for many years.
Free Wifi In Puerto del Carmen
A free Wifi service has been installed on Playa Grande, the main beach in Puerto del Carmen. Visitors can connect to the Wifi without needing passwords or access codes.
